Change Access Without Replacing Compatible Locks

Residential Rekey Service

What rekeying changes

Rekeying changes the internal pin or wafer combination of a compatible cylinder so that a new key operates it and the previous key no longer does. The existing lock body remains in place.

Common reasons to rekey a home

  • Moving into a property with an unknown key history.
  • A tenant, contractor or household member no longer needs access.
  • A key was lost and the lock is otherwise serviceable.
  • Compatible locks should operate from one new key.

When rekeying may not work

Some cylinders are not serviceable or are incompatible with the desired key system. Damaged, badly worn or unsuitable hardware may need replacement. Rekeying also does not repair a misaligned door, failed latch or broken lock body.

Plan the new keys

Before work starts, count the locks and the number of new keys needed. Mention any keyed-alike request and identify doors that should remain on a different key. Call 346-777-8777 to discuss compatibility and request an estimate.
