Residential Lock Repair

Common signs that a lock needs attention

  • The key is difficult to insert, turn or remove.
  • The deadbolt does not line up with the strike.
  • The cylinder or exterior trim is loose.
  • The latch does not retract or hold the door closed.
  • A key has broken inside the lock.

Repair starts with the door, not only the cylinder

A lock can bind because of worn parts, loose mounting screws, door movement or strike misalignment. The door and hardware should be checked together so that a new cylinder is not installed into an opening with the same alignment problem.

Repair or replacement

Serviceable hardware may need adjustment, cleaning or replacement of a worn component. Severe corrosion, damaged housings, unavailable parts or unsuitable hardware can make lock replacement the more practical option. The condition is explained before additional work is approved.
