House, Car and Restricted Key Checks

The first step in making a key is identifying what it operates. A common house key, restricted building key and electronic vehicle key may look similar in size, but they have different blanks, authorization requirements and equipment needs. Max Key Locksmith checks the key and intended use before confirming that a copy can be made.
Many standard residential keys can be copied when the correct blank is available. A clean original is preferable to a bent or heavily worn copy. If the source key already sticks, the lock or door alignment may need attention instead of another duplicate.
A mechanical vehicle key may need only a blade cut. Transponder, remote-head and smart keys can also require electronic programming before they start the vehicle or operate remote functions. Compatibility depends on the make, model, year and key system.
Review spare car key duplication, vehicle key replacement and key fob service for the appropriate process.
Some keys use controlled or patented keyways and require an authorization card, identification, property-manager approval or service through an authorized provider. Other restricted keys may not be copyable with the available blank or equipment. The exact key must be checked before duplication is accepted.
A missing original, damaged lock, worn ignition or incompatible electronic key can require decoding, repair, replacement or programming rather than a direct copy. The available options are explained after the key and hardware information are reviewed.
